That's a compliment to Lamborghini's forward-thinking engineering team that fabricated a magnificent supercar. Yet, there wasn't a hint of protest from the engine, a drop of fade from the carbon-ceramic brakes, or a whimper of squeal from the tires – the Ultimae laughed off my punishment and challenged me for more. On one lonely canyon section, I drove it like I stole it (I did consider stealing it). Despite its age – the Aventador is more than a decade old – it's talented enough to run with today's top-performing exotic cars. Instead, it relies on the phenomenal grip of its Pirelli tires, the claw-like traction of its all-wheel-drive system, and the magic of its rear-axle steering to slither with precision through the twisty corners. The broad-shouldered Aventador, weighing in at an estimated 3,700 pounds, does not dance with the nimbleness of Fred Astaire. Hold the accelerator to the floor on a desolate strip, and the Lamborghini tops out at over 220 mph. The 0-60 mph sprint takes a mere 2.7 seconds, with the speedometer indicating 100 mph about three seconds later – the experience, with the V12 roaring magnificently to its 8,700-rpm redline between each shift, is analogous to riding atop a solid-fuel rocket. It is impossible to find the limits of the Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae on a public road. And finally, the Aventador responds dutifully. It is much more agreeable and significantly quicker to "take the bull by the horns, " switch over to SPORT and shift manually. The transmission shifts awkwardly in its default STRADA driving mode (the four configurations are STRADA, SPORT, CORSA, and the EGO mode). Around town, the Aventador gives the impression that it is annoyed to be driving slowly. The idle is angry and loud – anything but subtle. Fire the Lamborghini Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae's V12 to life, and it becomes immediately apparent that this low-slung Italian is not happy.
